Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria inaugurated the IPB Future Museum and Gallery, (12/1) at the Dramaga Campus of IPB, Bogor. In his remarks, Prof Arif Satria said that the construction of this museum was an attempt to document the struggles in the past that made IPB University a great name. This museum is also a form of appreciation for predecessors and a point for planning the future.
“The IPB Future Museum and Gallery means respecting the past, then planning for the future. This will be a strength for the IPB University museum and a differentiator from other museums,” he said.
Prof Arif added that this was IPB University’s provision to encourage each other that what the academic community is doing will spread benefits for the progress of the Indonesian nation.
On the same occasion, Secretary of the Institute (SI) IPB University, Dr Aceng Hidayat told about how this museum was prepared. “We assembled a team and studied the manuscript from the IPB University History Book,” he said.
According to him, the toughest challenge in building this museum was how a book that is four volumes thick with thousands of pages becomes a script in a short story. Once the script is ready, it is translated into a work plan.
“As a preparatory team, we are immediately looking for planning consultants who do have experience in preparing manuscripts or museum planning,” he said.
Meanwhile, he continued, in this museum visitors can see the history of the formation of IPB University. IPB University is an educational institution agricultural college which historically was the formation of agricultural and veterinary secondary and higher educational institutions which began already in the early 20th century in Bogor. After Indonesia’s independence in 1945, an emergency college was established under the name Nood-Universiteit in Jakarta on 21 January 1946.
“Nood-Universiteit It manages five faculties. One of them is the Faculteit van Landbouwwetenschap (Faculty of Agriculture) which became the forerunner to the establishment of the first agricultural college in Indonesia. The birth of the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB University) on September 1, 1963 based on the decision of the Minister of Higher Education and Science (PTIP) No. 91/1963 which was later ratified by the First President of the Republic of Indonesia with Decree No. 279/1965,” he explained.
Until this year, Dr Aceng added that IPB University had produced various monumental works which also had national impacts. IPB University also produces innovations whose quality is recognized nationally and internationally. Various achievements have been made by lecturers, students, education staff, even alumni of IPB University. “The history and process of growth and development are trying to be displayed in the IPB Future Museum and Gallery. This museum documents various historical events and values in its founding and development and presents them in an interesting visual and audiovisual form,” he said.
According to him, this museum also documents the important role of IPB University for the progress of the Indonesian nation. The development of the IPB Future Museum and Gallery is also expected to be able to transfer the values that will be passed on to the younger generation in the future.
“This museum displays information about IPB University’s contribution to Indonesia. There are various innovations for the nation and foreign cooperation, formation and first lectures, the formation process, the initial establishment and messages from the President of Indonesia for IPB University. Most of the Presidents of the Republic of Indonesia were present at IPB University and left several messages,” he added.
Apart from that, he said, this museum also contains organizational changes from time to time, curriculum changes, research and community service from year to year, innovations and scientific developments in the faculties/schools of IPB University.
This museum occupies a building that was formerly called Wisma Landhuis, which is located on the Dramaga Campus of IPB. (Ns/Zul) (IAAS/AZA)
